ChiSox bedevil still-winless Rays

Apr 7, 2011 - 11:09 PM Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Edwin Jackson recorded eight innings of one-run ball to help the Chicago White Sox take a 5-1 win over Tampa Bay in the opener of a four-game set.

Jackson (2-0) was charged with four hits and struck out 13 to help the White Sox win their home opener.

"I got up early and was able to get outs quick today," said Jackson. "there wasn't many times when I got behind or got into trouble and when I did I was able to get out of it quickly."

Alex Rios hit two doubles, drove in two and scored once while Juan Pierre went 3-for-5 with a run scored for the White Sox, who have won their past two.

Reid Brignac drove in the lone run while David Price (0-2) was touched for three runs on nine hits with a walk and two strikeouts over six innings for the Rays, who are now 0-6 and join division-rival Boston as the only winless teams in the majors.

"It's freezing cold out there and it changes the game for us," said Price. "But you have to learn how to battle through this kind of weather and we didn't today."

In the first, Pierre singled, Gordon Beckham was then hit by a pitch and Rios doubled home both runners for a 2-0 lead.

The third inning saw a one-out double by Rios and Paul Konerko bringing him home with a single for a 2-0 advantage.

Jackson had allowed just one batter reach third-- Sam Fuld made it in the first inning -- and retired the Rays in order in four of the first seven innings.

However, Tampa got to him in the eighth. Felipe Lopez led off the frame with a pinch-hit double and he moved to third on John Jaso's groundout. Brignac then singled home Lopez to make it a one-run game. Jackson, though, struck out Fuld and got Johnny Damon to fly out to end the inning.

Chicago, though, got that run back and more in the bottom of the frame. With one on and two outs, Brent Lillibridge singled home a run and he then stole second. Pierre brought him home with a single for a 5-1 lead.

Sergio Santos worked a scoreless ninth to secure the win.
