Quentin, Jackson help White Sox rout Angels
May 10, 2011 - 7:36 AM Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Edwin Jackson threw seven shutout innings and Carlos Quentin went 3-for-4 with a three-run home run and five RBI as the Chicago White Sox dominated the LA Angels of Anaheim, 8-0, in the opener of a three-game set.Jackson (3-4) got the win as he gave up just five hits and a walk with five strikeouts for the White Sox, who have won three straight.
Gordon Beckham hit a two-run home run and Alexei Ramirez added a solo shot in the win.
Ervin Santana (1-4) was touched for five runs on eight hits with three walks and five strikeouts for the Angels, who have dropped two of three. Bobby Wilson's ninth-inning double was the only extra-base hit for the team.
"Edwin knew we were a fastball hitting team and he threw us off with a bunch of offspeed stuff tonight," said Wilson.
The White Sox got all the runs they needed in the second inning when A.J. Pierzynski singled and Beckham later homered for a 2-0 lead.
In the third, Adam Dunn and Paul Konerko hit consecutive singles and Quentin followed with an RBI double for a 3-0 lead. Quentin added another RBI double in the fifth that plated Ramirez for a four-run margin.
Chicago blew the game open in the seventh as Ramirez led off with a shot over the left field wall and Quentin added a homer with two men on base for an 8-0 lead.
Meanwhile, Jackson only allowed one runner to reach third base before stepping off the mound for Chris Sale, who worked around a one-out walk to Peter Bourjos in the eighth.
"It's a great feeling to have early run support," said Jackson. "I was throwing pitches for strikes, I was aggressive and I was hitting my marks."
Wilson led off the ninth with a double, but Will Ohman set down the next three batters to complete the shutout.
