Rangers handle Twins

Jun 11, 2011 - 4:56 AM Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - Michael Young went 3-for-5 with a run scored and three RBI to help the Rangers earn their first win at Target Field, 9-3, against the sneakily resurgent Twins.

Texas dropped all six of its games in the 2010 inaugural season of Target Field, then lost the opener of this four-game series on Thursday.

C.J. Wilson (7-3) tossed a quality outing to turn things around, allowing three runs on eight hits over seven frames.

"[Wilson is] a real horse. He goes out there and you can look for him to be in the game in the seventh and eighth inning, and that's what you want out of a number one guy," Rangers manager Ron Washington said.

Adrian Beltre added two hits and as many RBI for the Rangers, who scored seven runs off Brian Duensing (3-6) in the second inning to take control.

Drew Butera went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for the Twins, who had a two-game winning streak snapped.

"It's never fun to lose. It's fun to get hits, but I'd rather for 0-for and win," Butera said.

Duensing's night was over after a rain-soaked second frame, though only three of the runs he allowed were earned.

Jason Repko's error in center allowed the game's first run to score, and Yorvit Torrealba followed with an RBI base hit.

Andres Blanco reached first on Alexi Casilla's fielding error, and Elvis Andrus and Craig Gentry strung together consecutive run-scoring singles for a 4-0 game.

Young slapped a two-run single to right later in the frame, and Beltre capped the surge with an RBI double off the right-field wall.

The teams essentially traded runs the rest of the way. Matt Tolbert got the Twins on the board in the second with a run-scoring base hit, and Beltre plated Gentry in the fourth on a single to center.

Michael Cuddyer and Butera each knocked in a run in the fifth and sixth, respectively, around Young's third RBI.

Game Notes

Duensing allowed seven hits and a walk in his outing...Twins relievers threw seven innings -- six by Anthony Swarzak -- and have combined to allow just three earned runs since June 1...Gentry scored three times.
