Indians hammer Royals to finish series sweep
Apr 29, 2011 - 5:42 AMVideo
Shin-Soo Choo, Carlos Santana and Shelley Duncan each went deep for the Indians, who swept the Royals for the first time since August of 2008.
"Taking it day-by-day, that's all we're doing," Duncan said. "We're not looking at series sweeps, we're not looking at what month it is, we're not looking at who we're playing next."
Fausto Carmona (2-3) went seven innings and was charged with two runs on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
Wilson Betemit hit a two-run double for the Royals, who have dropped their past six games. Kyle Davies (1-3) was banged up for eight runs on nine hits with a walk and four strikeouts over 3 1/3 innings.
"There's no excuses. I've got to get some more swings and misses," Davies said. "I just couldn't stop it."
Back-to-back two-out solo homers from Choo and Santana in the first inning gave the Indians a 2-0 lead.
Sizemore led off the third with a homer and Duncan did the same in the fourth.
Later in the fourth, Jack Hannahan hit a two-run double and came home when Sizemore followed with a double to the gap in left center. A double from Asdrubal Cabrera later in the inning made it an 8-0 game.
Betemit's two-run double in the seventh got the Royals on the board, but Carmona retired the next three batters.
Tony Sipp worked a 1-2-3 eighth for Cleveland while Justin Germano retired three straight batters in the ninth after allowing a leadoff double to Billy Butler.
