Dobbs, Marlins down Phillies

Apr 16, 2011 - 3:36 AM Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Former Phillie Greg Dobbs delivered a pinch-hit, two-run single in the seventh inning, as the Florida Marlins downed Philadelphia, 4-3, in the opener of a three-game series at Citizens Bank Park.

Logan Morrison belted a solo home run and Omar Infante added an RBI double for the Marlins, who improved to 5-2 on their nine-game road trip. Florida starter Javier Vazquez gave up three runs on five hits and walked four in five innings. Edward Mujica (2-1) tossed one frame to pick up the win.

Raul Ibanez drove in two runs for Philadelphia, which returned home after a 4-2 road swing. Phillies starter Roy Oswalt allowed two runs on four hits and struck out six before exiting in the top of the seventh inning with a lower back strain.

Oswalt grabbed the left side of his lower back after reaching first base in the bottom of the sixth on a bunt attempt. The right-hander returned to the mound for the seventh -- with the Phillies up 3-2 -- but walked off with an athletic trainer before even throwing a pitch.

"I'm gonna get two days off, then throw a bullpen (session) and see where I'm at," Oswalt said. "The good thing about back spasms is it's not a disc (problem). The muscle tightened up for some reason. I've never had back spasms.

"The doctor said I might've tweaked it a little bit. It's not to the point where it's unbearable, but it's to the point if I keep pushing it, then I might miss my next start."

He was replaced by J.C. Romero, who gave up an infield single to Morrison on a ball that he deflected. Danys Baez (1-1) then walked Gaby Sanchez and surrendered a single to John Buck to load the bases. After Donnie Murphy popped out, Dobbs knocked in a pair with a soft liner to left field for a 4-3 Marlins lead.

"Dobbs had a huge base hit. It's seems like every night, somebody steps up and does the job," Marlins manager Edwin Rodriguez said.

Florida's Ryan Webb tossed a 1-2-3 seventh, Randy Choate and Clay Hensley combined to pitch a perfect eighth and Leo Nunez worked around a one-out walk in the ninth to record his fifth save.

The Phillies jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Shane Victorino led off with a walk and took third on a Jimmy Rollins double before scoring on a Ryan Howard sacrifice fly. Ibanez followed with a two-out single to plate Rollins.

Morrison launched a pitch over the center-field wall leading off the fifth -- the first hit given up by Oswalt -- but Ibanez countered with an RBI single in the bottom of the inning.

Back-to-back doubles by Chris Coghlan and Infante trimmed Florida's deficit to 3-2 in the sixth.

Game Notes

Philadelphia won 13 of 18 versus the Marlins last season, including the final six meetings...The Phillies opened a six-game homestand.
