Brewers finally beat Worley, avoid four-game sweep

They beat Vance Worley.
Nyjer Morgan hit an RBI double and scored on Ryan Braun's go-ahead single in a two-run seventh inning, lifting Milwaukee to a 3-2 win over Philadelphia, which had won the first three games of the series.
The Phillies had a 14-game winning streak snapped in starts made by Worley (11-2), the 23-year-old righty who had produced nothing but victories since May 29.
The streak fell one short of the team-record 15 consecutive wins in starts by Steve Carlton during the 1972 season.
Ryan Howard and Shane Victorino both hit solo homers for the Phillies, who had a six-game overall winning streak snapped. The NL East leaders could have clinched a playoff berth with a win and a St. Louis Cardinals loss on Sunday.
They went 6-1 in seven games against the Braves and Brewers, two potential playoff teams.
"I wanted to go 7-0," said Phillies manager Charles Manuel, "but that's just who I am."
Yovani Gallardo (16-10) won for the first time in three starts after allowing just three hits, including the homers to Howard and Victorino, and one walk while tying a career high with 12 strikeouts.
"It was the same type of game that we played yesterday," said Brewers manager Ron Roenicke. "Yovani was outstanding. We got the hits when we needed them, we also squared up on some balls that were caught. I don't want us to think it is a must-win game, but it was huge."
The Brewers took a 1-0 lead in the second inning and Gallardo held the Phillies at bay until the sixth, when Victorino led off with his 16th homer of the season and Howard belted his 33rd with two outs.
Until then, the 25-year-old righty had only given up a single to Howard in the second inning.
Milwaukee gave him a lead and knocked Worley out of the game with a two-out rally in the seventh. Corey Hart doubled and scored on Morgan's two-base hit to right, while Braun followed with a single to make it 3-2.
Worley thought he had Braun struck out during the at-bat, and said afterward that he wasn't worried about his streak ending.
"It's just one game," he said. "Giving up the hit was more frustrating than not getting the calls. You're not going to get every call."
Worley allowed eight hits and a walk with seven strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings. He was the first pitcher in the majors whose team won at least 14 consecutive games he started since the Cardinals won 17 straight starts by Chris Carpenter from June 14-September 13, 2005.
Pete Orr singled and Michael Martinez walked in the ninth, but John Axford escaped with his 42nd save for Milwaukee.
