Prado and Uggla homer in 8th, Braves top Brewers

Apr 4, 2011 - 10:08 PM Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - Martin Prado and Dan Uggla both homered off former Brave Takashi Saito in the eighth inning, as Atlanta edged the Milwaukee Brewers, 2-1, in the opener of a four-game series at Miller Park.

Brandon Beachy struck out seven over six innings for Atlanta, which took two of three from Washington to begin the season.

One of the four hits given up by Beachy was a Rickie Weeks home run in the third.

The Brewers, who were swept in Cincinnati, have dropped four consecutive games to start the season for the first time since 2003.

Chris Narveson tossed six scoreless frames for Milwaukee, scattering three hits and recording five strikeouts, but earned a no-decision.

"Chris was really sharp. He had good command over his fastball and a great changeup," said Milwaukee manager Ron Roenicke.

With the Brewers up by the slimmest of margins, Saito (0-1), who appeared in 56 games for Atlanta last season, gave up a home run to Prado to start the eighth. After the next two batters were retired, Uggla deposited an offering over the left-field wall.

Peter Moylan (1-0) was replaced by Jonny Venters in the bottom of the inning after Ryan Braun stroked a one-out single. Venters, though, got Prince Fielder to ground into a 5-6-3 double play.

Craig Kimbrel then struck out the side in the ninth to pick up his second save.

Milwaukee had its chances to build a big lead, but finished 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position. The Brewers stranded two runners in both the first and fourth innings.

"Beachy showed a lot of poise when he got out of those jams," said Atlanta manager Fredi Gonzalez.
