Blue Jays power past Red Sox

May 13, 2013 - 6:09 AM Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Jose Bautista hit two of Toronto's five home runs and had three RBI as the Blue Jays powered past the Boston Red Sox, 12-4, in the rubber match of a three-game series at Fenway Park.

Emilio Bonifacio went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer while Edwin Encarnacion and Brett Lawrie each added solo shots for Toronto, which won just its second series of the season and completed a winning road trip with a 4-3 record.

"We only played one game over .500 on the road trip, but it's a great way to bounce back, because we were playing pretty bad," Bautista said. "It's good, too, to just be playing good baseball. The results are going to come just from the consistency of doing that."

Chad Jenkins (1-0), making his first start of the year in place of the injured Brandon Morrow, earned his second career victory after allowing two runs on seven hits in five-plus innings of work.

Mike Napoli and Pedro Ciriaco each hit solo homers for a Boston club that has lost eight of 10 and went 3-of-36 with runners in scoring position in the series, including 0-for-8 on Sunday.

Ryan Dempster (2-4) was rocked for six runs on seven hits in his five-inning start to take the loss.

"I've just got to do a better job," Dempster admitted. "I didn't have the slider I normally have. It's unfortunate."

Toronto's Munenori Kawasaki slapped a two-out, two-run single in the second inning prior to the home run barrage.

In the third, Bautista hit the first pitch he saw over the Green Monster and nearly out of the stadium for his eighth home run of the season.

An inning later, with a runner on base, Bonifacio launched his first of the year. Shane Victorino was tracking the ball before recklessly smacking hard into the right-field wall. The outfielder was dazed for a moment but stayed in the game before being replaced in the seventh inning.

Napoli got the Red Sox on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a blast to straightaway center, but Encarnacion got the run right back in the fifth by crushing a letter-high fastball over everything in left field.

Dempster was gone at the start of the next inning, but the Blue Jays continued to pound the ball. Lawrie greeted Andrew Miller with a no-doubter over the wall in left-center, Melky Cabrera added a sacrifice fly and Bautista hammered a two-run shot off Clayton Mortensen for a 10-1 cushion.

Daniel Nava's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth and two runs in the eighth courtesy of Ciriaco's first home run of the season and Jarrod Saltalamacchia's RBI groundout accounted for the final three Red Sox runs.

Encarnacion, who had three of Toronto's 12 hits, tacked on an run-scoring single in the ninth, and Bautista crossed the plate again on J.P. Arencibia's double-play grounder.
