Davis homers again as O's down ChiSox
Jul 4, 2013 - 4:37 AM Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Chris Davis finished 2-for-4 with three RBI, a solo home run and a tie-breaking two-run double in the eighth inning to push the Baltimore Orioles past the Chicago White Sox, 4-2, in the middle contest of a three-game set at U.S. Cellular Field.Nick Markakis singled off Matt Lindstrom (2-3) to begin the eighth inning, Following a Manny Machado strikeout, Adam Jones singled to left to chase Lindstrom from the mound. Davis delivered the go-ahead hit to the right field corner off Matt Thornton to give the O's a 4-2 lead.
Jones drove in the other run for the Orioles, who got back on track after having a four-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday.
Darren O'Day (4-0) threw a scoreless seventh inning to earn the win and Jim Johnson collected his 29th save of the year after a shaky ninth, bringing the potential game-winning run to the plate.
Gordon Beckham had two hits, one being a solo homer, while Adam Dunn contributed an RBI for the White Sox, who have lost six of their last seven games.
Scott Feldman, who was acquired on Tuesday, had a solid Baltimore debut. He surrendered two runs on six hits while fanning six in six frames.
"It's been a whirlwind the last two days," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. "I just didn't want him to sit around seven or eight days between starts. You could see in his eyes he had a little more confidence as the game went on."
White Sox starter Hector Santiago had in impressive outing as well. He pitched seven innings, yielding two runs on five hits with nine strikeouts.
The O's put runners on the corners to begin the first with a Markakis walk and a Machado single to center. Jones followed with a single to left to score Markakis. Santiago was able to get the next three batters out to minimize the damage.
Chicago answered in the home half after Alex Rios singled and stole second, Dunn connected on a two-out double to tie the game. With runners on the corners, Feldman struck out Conor Gillaspie to end the inning.
"I felt like he did a pretty good job of just mixing pitches in and out, cutters, sinkers," Beckham said of Feldman. "When you have that combination it's never easy."
Davis crushed his league-leading 32nd home run on the first pitch of the fourth inning over the left-field wall to make it 2-1.
Beckham hit his first home run of the year to start the fifth to tie the game.
