Marlins rip Halladay, punchless Phils to gain series split

May 5, 2013 - 11:51 PM Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Adeiny Hechavarria hit a grand slam and tied a franchise record with seven RBI, as the Miami Marlins pounded the Philadelphia Phillies, 14-2, on Sunday in the finale of a four-game set at Citizens Bank Park.

Hechavarria added a bases-loaded triple during his offensive onslaught, while Marcell Ozuna went 4-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored. Justin Ruggiano added a pair of homers, three RBI and four runs scored for the Marlins, who had dropped three straight before taking the final two games of this set.

"We went out there and we had good at-bats," Marlins manager Mike Redmond said. "Ozuna continues to swing a hot bat and Ruggiano had a couple home runs and I think guys just kind of built off everybody's at-bats."

Kevin Slowey (1-2) struck out seven over seven scoreless frames of two-hit, two-walk ball to notch his first victory in his seventh start of the season.

After managing just one hit in Saturday's setback, the Phillies registered just four hits Sunday, with Freddy Galvis' run-scoring ground out in the eighth accounting for the team's lone run batted in.

Roy Halladay (2-4) was shelled for the second straight outing, giving up nine runs on four hits and four walks in just 2 1/3 innings.

The veteran right-hander allowed eight runs on nine hits in 3 2/3 innings against the Cleveland Indians on April 30.

Miami loaded the bases in the first without the aid of a hit, as Halladay issued a pair of walks around a groundout before plunking Ruggiano.

Ozuna followed with a double off the top of the wall in left to score Juan Pierre and Placido Polanco for a 2-0 lead before Halladay walked Greg Dobbs to reload the bases.

Miguel Olivo popped out to third for the second out, but Hechavarria cleared the bases with a triple into the gap in right center for a 5-0 advantage.

After retiring the Marlins in order in the second, Halladay ran into more trouble in the third, as he hit Ruggiano to start the frame before walking Ozuna and serving up a single to Dobbs to load the bases.

After Olivo fanned, Hechavarria smacked a fastball the other way into the first row in right field to make it 9-0 and chase Halladay from the contest.

"He just didn't have his command today," Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said of Halladay.

Ozuna added a run-scoring single in the sixth to make it 10-0 before Ruggiano launched a one-out solo shot in the eighth.

Ozuna followed with a double and scored two batters later when Kevin Frandsen's relay throw from second on a potential inning-ending double play sailed wide of first base.

Philadelphia finally broke through in the bottom half when Carlos Ruiz worked a leadoff walk and Ben Revere followed with an infield single to first. Miami reliever A.J. Ramos was late getting to the bag and then fired to third to try and catch Ruiz, but his throw was wild, allowing Ruiz to score and Revere to advance to second.

Revere scored two batters later on Galvis' groundout to first.

Ruggiano added a two-out, two-run blast in the ninth to account for the final margin.

Game Notes

Hechavarria is the fourth Marlins player to knock in seven runs in a game, joining Cody Ross (Sept. 11, 2006), Gary Sheffield (Sept. 18, 1995) and Greg Colbrunn (July 18, 1995) ... Halladay allowed five runs in the first, marking the first time he had done so since April 29, 1999 against the Angels when he was with the Toronto Blue Jays ... Miami placed outfielder Austin Kearns on the bereavement list and recalled catcher Kyle Skipworth from Triple-A New Orleans ... Ozuna made his major league debut on April 30 and has hit safely in all six games he has appeared.
