Indians whip Phillies in series finale

May 15, 2013 - 11:06 PM Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Jason Kipnis homered, doubled twice and drove in three runs as Cleveland earned a split thanks to a 10-4 decision over Philadelphia in the finale of a two-game interleague set.

"We showed up with a purpose today. We got a win out of it," said Indians manager Terry Francona.

Mark Reynolds and Asdrubal Cabrera each knocked in two, while Nick Swisher added a two-run blast and Mike Aviles hit a solo homer for the Indians, who dropped the opener by a 6-2 count on Tuesday.

Corey Kluber (3-2) allowed three runs on six hits in six full frames, fanning five without a walk.

Jimmy Rollins finished 2-for-4 and drove three runs for the Phillies, whose win streak ended at three games.

Cole Hamels (1-6) lasted five innings in defeat, during which he was charged with six hits and five runs. The left-hander has lost three in a row and four of his last five starts.

"I don't think there's nothing with his arm, because his velocity is good," said Phils manager Charlie Manuel. "Right now, the last few games, he's having trouble locating his pitches, commanding his pitches."

Hamels avoided trouble in the first two innings, but Reynolds' two-out, two- run double put the Tribe up 2-0 in the third. Rollins countered in the home half on a two-out RBI single, scoring John Mayberry, who reached on a one-out single and was sacrificed to second by Hamels.

Aviles reached the seats in left with a one-out solo blast for a two-run Cleveland edge in the fourth, and Swisher's two-run shot in the fifth made it 5-1 for the visitors.

Rollins pulled the Phils within 5-3 in the home half of the fifth on a two- out, two-run double, then Chad Durbin gave them right back by serving up a two-run single with two down in the top of the sixth to Cabrera.

In the eighth, Michael Brantley walked, Drew Stubbs doubled and Kipnis buried a pitch deep into the right-field seats for a 10-3 game.

Carlos Ruiz doubled home Delmon Young in the ninth, but the Phils had nothing else in the tank.
