Cabrera, Padres down D'backs
May 26, 2013 - 5:59 AM Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - Everth Cabrera finished a triple shy of the cycle and drove in four runs to lead the San Diego Padres to a 10-4 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks in the second of a three-game set at Chase Field."He's locked in both offensively and defensively. He's playing loose and inspired," Padres manager Bud Black said of Cabrera.
Yonder Alosno drove in a pair of runs and Nick Hundley went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Padres, who had dropped three straight entering the contest.
Andrew Cashner (4-2) surrendered four runs on nine hits while striking out five over six-plus innings to pick up the win.
Eric Chavez homered and drove in three runs and Paul Goldschmidt added an RBI for the D'backs, losers in three of their last four games.
Wade Miley (3-4) was tagged for seven runs on seven hits in just 3 2/3 innings to drop his third straight start. Miley is 1-4 with a 7.24 earned run average over his last five starts.
"Just get after it again and move on," Miley said of his struggles.
The Padres exploded for five runs with two outs in the fourth inning to take a 7-4 lead. Carlos Quentin opened the frame with a single then scored on Alonso's base hit to right field. After Hundley reached on a single to center, Cashner helped his own cause with an RBI base hit to right field. Chris Denorfia followed with an RBI double and Cabrera capped the inning with a two- run double to center.
San Diego added two more runs in the fifth. With the bases loaded, Hundley smacked a single to left field, scoring Quentin and Kyle Blanks.
Alonso was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the ninth to force home Cabrera to account for the final margin.
Chavez got the D'backs on the board with a two-run homer in the first inning.
The Padres evened the score in the third with Cabrera's two-run blast, but Arizona added a pair in the home half to take the lead back.
After back-to-back singles from Gerardo Parra and Didi Gregorius, Goldschmidt ripped a single to right field to bring Parra around. Chavez followed with a sacrifice fly to left to score Gregorius, but it would be the last time the D'backs would cross the plate the rest of the way.
Game Notes
Cabrera swiped his MLB-leading 19th stolen base and the 100th of his career ... San Diego went 7-for-16 with runners in scoring position ... The Padres have won 17 of their last 18 games ...
