Navarro hits 3 homers, Cubs pound White Sox

May 29, 2013 - 11:48 PM Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Dioner Navarro had a career day with three home runs, six RBI and four runs scored to help the Chicago Cubs dismantle the Chicago White Sox, 9-3, in the opener of a two-game interleague set at Wrigley Field.

Navarro went 3-for-3 with a solo, two-run and three-run homer. It was the first multi-home run game of his career. Coming into today, Navarro had just three home runs and seven RBI on the season.

He is the first Cubs catcher to hit three home runs in a game since George Mitterwald did it in 1974.

"I have never done that in my life before," said Navarro. "It's a great feeling and it's so surreal right now."

Anthony Rizzo and Ryan Sweeney each added an RBI for the Cubs, who have won three straight.

Scott Feldman (5-4) went six strong innings while allowing two runs on six hits with seven strikeouts. It was Feldman's sixth quality start of the season.

Alejandro De Aza, Adam Dunn and Tyler Flowers each recorded an RBI for the White Sox.

John Danks (0-1) let up four runs -- three earned -- in just his second start of the season after undergoing shoulder surgery in August of last year. He scattered five hits, struck out two and walked one over four frames.

"I'm not a guy that's going to make many excuses," said Danks about his performance. "I felt fine going into the game, just didn't pitch well."

The Cubs got on the board early when Rizzo grounded into a fielder's choice in the first to give the Cubs a 1-0 lead. David DeJesus reached second on a fielding error by left fielder Dayan Viciedo to start the inning before moving to third on Starlin Castro's line drive single.

It didn't take long for the White Sox to respond, as Conor Gillaspie and Jeff Keppinger smacked back-to-back singles in the second. With runners on the corners and one out, Flowers hit an RBI single to tie the game.

Navarro's solo shot in the second gave the lead back to the Cubs.

He added to the 2-1 lead in the fourth inning with his second homer of the day, a two-run shot to left.

De Aza cut into the lead with a sacrifice fly to left in the fifth to score Flowers, making it a 4-2 game.

The Cubs opened the game up in the sixth inning. It started with a Scott Hairston single followed by a Navarro walk to put the first two men of the inning on. A wild pitch by Matt Lindstrom, following a sacrifice bunt, scored a run. Sweeney, pinch-hitting for Feldman, singled up the middle to score Navarro.

Navarro's third home run came in the seventh with a three-run shot to right that left the ballpark to seal the deal for the Cubs. While he hit his first two from the right side of the plate, this one came from the left side.

The White Sox bullpen let up five runs on six hits over four frames.

Dunn hit a sac fly in the eighth to score Alexei Ramirez to account for the final margin.
