Goldschmidt's HR leads D'backs over Marlins
Jun 19, 2013 - 7:40 AM Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - Paul Goldschmidt hit the game-winning homer in the ninth inning to lift the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 3-2 win over the Miami Marlins on Tuesday.With the game tied 2-2, Goldschmidt smacked Chad Qualls' (2-1) second-pitch sinker over the wall in center field.
"I had a good feeling," Goldschmidt said. "If not [a home run], it wasn't going to be a triple, [because] I wasn't running that hard, so I'm glad it got out of here."
David Hernandez (3-4) earned the win after tossing a perfect top of the ninth inning. Randall Delgado gave up two runs on eight hits while striking out six over seven innings in his first start of the season for the D'backs, who had dropped four straight entering the game.
"It's a tough loss," Marlins manager Mike Redmond said. "All you can do is just tip your cap."
Miami jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning. After Marcell Ozuna reached on a fielder's choice, Derek Dietrich smacked an RBI triple to right- center field. The ball bounced on the warning track and under the pad on the top the fence, allowing Dietrich to reach third base.
Later in the inning, Adeiny Hechavarria slapped a single past a diving Goldschmidt and into right field to score Dietrich.
In the bottom half, Miguel Montero walked before Martin Prado crushed a towering two-run homer to left-center field. It was his fifth long ball of the season.
Marlins starter Nathan Eovaldi, who made his season debut after missing the first 69 games with a shoulder injury, gave up two runs on three hits over six frames.
