Anthony Recker, who turned 30 on Thursday, and Andrew Brown homered.
In his first game as Matt Harvey's replacement in the rotation, Torres (3-2) allowed one run on four hits while striking out six.
"It was good to have Carlos step up, because we don't know what's going to happen in the next couple weeks," Mets manager Terry Collins said. "Certainly we need starting pitching so I'm glad he did a good job for us."
Roger Bernadina hit a two-run homer for the Phillies, who fell to 3-15 over their last 18 road game. Darin Ruf added an RBI.
Philadelphia starter Ethan Martin (2-3) gave up three runs on four hits while striking out a career-high nine batters over four innings.
New York's offense got going in the third inning. Young singled to right- center field and raced home on Murphy's double to right-center field.
Recker's two-run home run in the fourth made it a 3-0 game. Justin Turner led off with a walk and scored on Recker's one-out homer to left.
The Mets tacked on another run in the fifth. With Cesar Jimenez on the mound, Murphy doubled to right and crossed the plate on Brown's single to right.
New York scored two more runs off Jimenez in the sixth. Recker walked, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, advanced to third on Young's single to shallow left field and scored on a Jimenez balk. Murphy followed with an RBI-single to left.
Philadelphia finally got on the board in the seventh. Chase Utley and Domonic Brown hit back-to-back singles to start the inning. Utley moved to third when Carlos Ruiz flied out and scored on Ruf's sacrifice fly.
"It was a tough day all around, it was a long day. All we can do is keep our heads up and get better every day as a team," Domonic Brown said.
The Mets, however, responded with four runs in the bottom half. With the bases loaded and one out, Omar Quintanilla walked to force in a run. After pinch- hitter Ike Davis struck out swinging, Young cleared the bases with a triple to right.
Bernadina hit a two-run homer in the top of the eighth, but Brown hit a solo homer in the bottom half.
