Padres hit three HRs in win over Giants
Sep 29, 2013 - 5:24 AM San Francisco, CA (Sports Network) - Chris Denorfia, Jesus Guzman, and Jedd Gyorko all homered to help the San Diego Padres defeat the San Francisco Giants 9-3 in the second game of a three-game set.Tommy Medica and Guzman both had three hits for the Padres, who have won four of their last six games.
San Diego starter Eric Stults (11-13) tossed seven innings and allowed three runs on seven hits with three strikeouts. The left-hander has earned the win in each of his last three starts.
Yusmeiro Petit (4-1) picked up his first loss of the season. The right-hander lasted only 3 2/3 innings where he gave up five runs on seven hits. The Giants had won in his six previous starts.
"I know that this outing for me was not a good one, but I gave them enough to think about," Petit said.
Hunter Pence, who reportedly signed a five-year, $90 million deal prior to the game, drove in two of San Francisco's three runs on a home run in the third. San Francisco's win streak ended at three games.
Denorfia led off the game with a blast over the center field wall.
Angel Pagan doubled on a line drive out to left to lead off the bottom half for the Giants. Juan Perez lined out and Pence struck out before Pablo Sandoval doubled to the corner in left to score Pagan.
Pence crushed a fastball out to center field in the third to score Perez, who singled on the previous at-bat.
San Diego jumped ahead in the fourth. In a 14-pitch at bat, Medica smacked a single up the middle to score Chase Headley from second. Guzman lifted a fly ball into the left field seats to bring in Medica. Alexi Amarista and Chris Robinson both singled before Stults chased Petit out of the game with an RBI single to right.
"That was one of the best at-bats of the year," Black said.
The Padres tacked on four more runs in the ninth. Will Venable doubled out to left with one out before a single from Denorfia brought him around. Denorfia stole third and reached home on a single from Reymond Fuentes. Gyorko crushed a home run to left off Mike Kickham to plate Fuentes.

Denorfia, Headley, and Tony Abreu extended their hitting streaks to six games ... San Diego registered 16 hits ... The Giants lead the series 10-8 ... San Francisco went 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position.
