Haren, Dodgers take down Diamondbacks

Jun 15, 2014 - 5:35 AM Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Dan Haren pitched into the seventh inning and chipped in at the plate as the Los Angeles Dodgers grabbed a 6-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks in the second of a three-game set.

Haren (7-4) gave up three runs on eight hits over 6 1/3 innings, and also had a three-run double for the Dodgers, who have won five of their last seven. Dee Gordon smacked a two-run home run in the win.

"After the first inning Dan made his pitches. He's a strike-thrower and he got into a rhythm," said Los Angeles manager Don Mattingly. "His hit gave us the cushion that we needed."

Paul Goldschmidt hit a two-run home run and Martin Prado was 3-for-4 with a solo home run and two RBI for the Diamondbacks, who have lost four straight.

Josh Collmenter (4-4) was tagged for six runs on eight hits with three walks and three strikeouts in six innings of work.

The Diamondbacks grabbed the lead in the first inning as Didi Gregorius led off with a double and Goldschmidt launched a pitch over the wall in left for a 2-0 score.

In the third, the Dodgers tied the game as Miguel Rojas singled with one out, and Gordon followed two batters later with his second home run of the season.

Prado's RBI single in the fourth gave Arizona the lead back, but Los Angeles went ahead for good in the home half.

Yasiel Puig walked to start and Adrian Gonzalez followed with a single before Matt Kemp singled home Puig. Andre Ethier then grounded out, and A.J. Ellis was issued an intentional walk before Miguel Rojas flied out for the second out of the inning. Haren then launched a pitch into right field for a bases- clearing double and a 6-3 lead.

"You never want to give up a hit to a pitcher, especially in a situation like that," said Collmenter. "He just got a good rip on one and put it in the right spot."

Prado homered off Kenley Jansen to start the ninth inning, but Jansen then set down the next three batters for his 19th save of the season.
