Final
Mauer, Twins down O's
May 4, 2014 - 1:11 AM Minneapolis, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - Joe Mauer smacked a three-run homer among his three hits and the Minnesota Twins beat the Baltimore Orioles, 6-1, in the middle test of a three-game set.Mauer posted four RBI and scored a pair of runs, while Brian Dozier belted a solo shot to go with three hits and three runs scored for the Twins, who snapped a four-game losing streak.
Kevin Correia (1-3) surrendered a run on five hits, while fanning three over seven frames for the win.
"I've thrown some games where I've had a good chance to win a game and to go a month without getting one is hard, it just puts more pressure on you every time you go out there so it's nice to get that first one," Correia said.
Wei-Yin Chen (3-2) allowed three runs -- two earned -- on six hits and a walk over five innings for Baltimore, which had a three-game winning streak snapped.
"I tried to make a good pitch to get hitters out and I couldn't do it like in my previous outing," Chen said through a translator.
The game was tied 1-1 through two innings, but the Twins plated a run in the third and the fifth before adding three more in the seventh to surge ahead.
Dozier led off the third by pounding a 3-2 fastball from Chen off the facade in left. In the fifth, Dozier singled before advancing to second on a throwing error by Manny Machado. Mauer's one-out single through the left side plated Dozier and made it a 3-1 game.
Pedro Florimon and Dozier singled to lead off the seventh before Mauer stroked his three-run shot the other way just over the wall in left to extend the margin to 6-1.
Earlier, Trevor Plouffe's RBI double in the first opened the scoring, but the O's knotted the tilt in the second on a J.J. Hardy RBI base hit up the middle.
Game Notes
Dozier has eight homers so far this year, while Plouffe tallied his 13th double of the season ... Minnesota was 3-for-10 with runners in scoring position, while Baltimore finished 1-for-7.
