Santana, Brantley power Indians past O's
Aug 17, 2014 - 4:49 AM Cleveland, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Carlos Santana hit a three-run home run and Carlos Carrasco pitched seven effective innings to lead the Cleveland Indians in a 6-0 win over the Baltimore Orioles in the second of a three-game set.Carrasco (5-4) gave up just three hits while striking out five in the win, earning the praise of manager Terry Francona.
"We've talked about him wanting a spot in the rotation in the spring," Francona said. "Now, he's gone out and earned it by what he's done pitching. That should be really rewarding for him, because he deserves it."
Michael Brantley hit a two-run home run and Jose Ramirez scored twice and drove in a run for the Indians, who have won five of their last six games.
Ubaldo Jimenez (4-9) allowed six runs on five hits over 4 1/3 innings for the Orioles, who have dropped their past two.
"It's difficult, because you know it is in there," O's catcher Caleb Joseph said of the inconsistent Jimenez. "And you want to try and call pitches that kind of get him back. You try as best as you can to get him back on track."
Cleveland got all the runs it needed in the first inning as Michael Bourn and Ramirez walked before Santana blasted his 21st homer of the year to dead center for a 3-0 lead.
In the fifth, the Indians got a leadoff double from Chris Dickerson and he moved up a base on Bourn's sac bunt. Ramirez then singled home Dickerson, and he came home on Brantley's 18th home run of the season for a 6-0 advantage.
Carrasco, meanwhile, didn't allow a runner to get past second during his seven innings and C.C. Lee tossed a 1-2-3 eighth.
Nick Hagadone and Bryan Shaw combined for a scoreless ninth to polish off the win.
