Brewers outlast Red Sox in extras

Apr 6, 2014 - 4:20 AM Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - Logan Schafer doubled in the winning run in the top of the 11th as Milwaukee claimed a 7-6 victory over Boston in the middle test of this three-game interleague series from Fenway Park.

Khris Davis kept the inning alive with a two-out ground-rule double over the short wall in right against Burke Badenhop (0-1), then Schafer chased him home with another two-bagger.

Francisco Rodriguez closed the door by striking out the side to earn his second save. Tyler Thornburg (1-0) tossed a scoreless home 10th for the win.

Davis ended 4-for-6 with an RBI and two runs scored, Scooter Gennett drove in two, while both Mark Reynolds and Carlos Gomez slugged solo homers for the Brewers, who look to earn a sweep in Sunday's finale.

Mike Napoli clubbed a three-run homer with A.J. Pierzynski and Jonathan Herrera knocking in a run each for the Red Sox, who fell to 2-3 on the season. Xander Bogaerts added two hits and scored twice in the setback.

Aramis Ramirez singled home Jean Segura with two down in the first to put the Brewers on the board.

Reynolds kicked off the second with his first homer of the season and Gomez followed with a two-out blast to make it 3-0 for Milwaukee.

In the home second, Bogaerts singled with one out and Johnny Gomes followed with a double, then a groundout from Pierzynski put the Sox on the board and Herrera's base hit plated Gomes.

The Brewers came back with three more in the third, on an RBI single from Davis and a two-out, two-run double from Gennett. Yet the Sox rallied, climbing within 6-5 in the home half after Grady Sizemore walked, Dustin Pedroia reached on an error and Napoli launched a ball into the center-field bleachers.

Boston drew even in the bottom of the sixth. Bogaerts doubled and Gomes walked against Jim Henderson, then Zach Duke induced a double-play grounder from Pierzynski which left Bogaerts at third. Segura then booted a Herrera grounder plating Bogaerts.

Milwaukee failed to break the deadlock with a runner on third in the eighth, then left the bases loaded in the 10th after Junichi Tazawa induced an inning- ending fly to right from Jonathan Lucroy.
