Jeter, Teixeira help Yankees get best of Red Sox

Aug 3, 2014 - 3:16 AM Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - Derek Jeter drove in two runs and Mark Teixeira added a solo homer, as the New York Yankees came away with a 6-4 victory over the Boston Red Sox in the middle test of a three-game series from Fenway Park.

Jacoby Ellsbury, Carlos Beltran and Stephen Drew also knocked in a run apiece for the Yankees, who won for just the second time in their last seven games.

Shawn Kelley (2-3) struck out three over 1 1/3 relief innings. Shane Greene worked the first 4 2/3 frames, giving up three runs on six hits while fanning five and walking two.

Mike Napoli hit a two-run shot for the Red Sox, who couldn't maintain momentum from Friday's series-opening win and dropped their ninth game in 11. David Ortiz and Christian Vazquez added an RBI each in defeat.

Allen Webster (1-1) issued a career-high six walks over his 2 2/3 frames, taking the loss after allowing four runs and two hits.

"I felt good in the first two innings, really struggled with my release point in the third and never got it back," Webster admitted.

The Yankees took the lead for good with four runs in the third, chasing Boston's starter in the process. Webster issued walks in turn to Martin Prado, Francisco Cervelli and Brett Gardner, before Jeter's bloop double to right plated two, an Ellsbury groundout tied the game and a Beltran single plated Jeter two batters later.

"You aren't always going to hit the ball hard, get a lot of hits or score a lot of runs," Jeter said. "When you do, hopefully it lasts for as long as possible. You can always feel like you have a hit streak coming, but you have to go out and do it."

Webster was finally pulled after walking Chase Headley and Drew before Burke Badenhop grounded out Prado to end the frame.

Teixeira cleared the Monster to start the fifth and give New York a 5-3 edge, then Drew doubled home Beltran -- who started the seventh with a ground-rule double due to fan interference -- for a three-run Yankees lead.

Boston got that run back in the home half, as Brock Holt walked with one down, went to third on a Dustin Pedroia hit to right and scored on an Ortiz fly to left.

Dellin Betances turned in a 1-2-3 eighth inning, then David Robertson worked around a Holt single in the ninth to earn his 28th save.

Things looked better for the hosts early on.

In the home second, Yoenis Cespedes reached on a leadoff single and scored when Napoli cleared the light tower above the Green Monster. Daniel Nava followed with a walk, moved up on a Jackie Bradley groundout and scored on a Vazquez single.
