Cubs beat Brewers to win series

May 19, 2014 - 12:35 AM Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Welington Castillo and Mike Olt homered in a 4-2 victory on Sunday as the Chicago Cubs won a series at home against the Milwaukee Brewers for the first time since 2011.

Travis Wood (4-4) gave up two hits in the fifth inning -- including a two-run homer to Rickie Weeks -- but held Milwaukee otherwise hitless in seven frames, striking out seven.

The Cubs won the last two games of the three-game set, improving to 4-10 in their last 14. It was the first time they beat Milwaukee in a home series since taking two of three from Sept. 19-21, 2011. They won for just the 10th time in their last 34 game against their NL Central rival.

Hector Rondon gave up a leadoff double to Ryan Braun in the ninth but got three straight outs after that to pick up his fifth save of the season.

Milwaukee right-hander Marco Estrada (3-2) suffered his first loss in six starts after yielding four runs on seven hits and two walks in five innings.

Wood pitched out of trouble after walking the bases loaded in the first inning and held the Brewers hitless through 4 1/3.

"That was certainly our opportunity and after that there was nothing," said Brewers manager Ron Roenicke.

The Cubs took a 2-0 lead in the second inning after Luis Valbuena drew a leadoff walk and scored on Castillo's homer to left field.

Starlin Castro and Valbuena hit consecutive doubles in the third inning to plate another run and Chicago went up 4-0 on Olt's leadoff blast to left- center in the fourth, his ninth homer of the season.

"All the guys put together some pretty good at-bats," said Cubs manager Rick Renteria. "It was good to see that."

Logan Schafer's one-out double in the fifth inning was Milwaukee's first hit and Weeks followed two batters later with a homer out of the park to cut Chicago's lead in half.

Game Notes

The Cubs will host the Yankees for a two-game set on Tuesday and Wednesday ... The Brewers continue a 10-game road trip in Atlanta on Monday in the opener of a four-game series.
