Noesi, Eaton carry White Sox over Twins

Jul 25, 2014 - 5:11 AM Minneapolis, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - Hector Noesi pitched into the eighth, and Adam Eaton knocked in a pair of runs as Chicago topped Minnesota, 5-2, in the opener of a four-game series.

Alexei Ramirez and Tyler Flowers added an RBI each for the White Sox, who were coming off a series loss at home against the Royals.

Noesi (5-7) worked 7 2/3 innings, giving up only a two-run homer to Danny Santana and two other hits while striking out three. Jake Petricka pitched a quiet ninth to earn his fifth save.

"Like I said before when you have command with your fastball, every pitch you can mix in," said Noesi. "Everything was working today."

Phil Hughes (10-7) left the game one batter into the fourth after taking a ball off the right ankle. He allowed two runs on four hits with four strikeouts in defeat for the Twins, who had taken two of three from the Indians.

"It hit me square on the bone," said Hughes. "It wasn't one of those glancing blows. It just shot right back. I knew it hurt so bad that something was up, but I'm really thankful it's not broken."

Chicago picked up a run in the third, as Eaton doubled with two away and scored when Ramirez followed with a base hit.

It was 4-0 for the White Sox in the fourth. Hughes exited after Adam Dunn's sharp grounder hit his leg, then Samuel Deduno gave up a one-out single to Conor Gillaspie and a two-out hit to Alejandro De Aza which loaded the bases ahead of a Flowers walk, which forced in a run. Eaton followed with a single up the middle, which brought in two more.

Noesi set aside the first 11 batters he faced, then allowed a two-out hit to Trevor Plouffe before fanning Josh Willingham looking in the fourth. He then walked Chris Parmelee with two away in the fifth and set down the next eight Twins.

Santana's deep belt to right after Parmelee singled put Minnesota on the board at 5-2 and signaled Noesi's exit. Daniel Webb picked up the final out of the frame by inducing a groundout from Sam Fuld.

Petricka, a Twin Cities-area native, fanned two in a 1-2-3 ninth.
