Frazier lifts Reds past Brewers in 10 innings

May 5, 2014 - 2:55 AM Cincinnati, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Todd Frazier's RBI double in the bottom of the 10th inning gave the Cincinnati Reds a 4-3 win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday to wrap-up a four-game set from Great American Ball Park.

Tyler Thornburg (3-1) struck out Joey Votto and got Brandon Phillips to pop out to first baseman Lyle Overbay for the first two outs of the 10th.

Thornburg then walked Chris Heisey on four pitches and Frazier followed by pulling a 2-0 offering into the left-field corner. Heisey raced around the bags and slid into home safely as Scooter Gennett's relay throw was off line.

"I was glad it went hard so it hit the wall to give Heisey a couple of extra steps," said Frazier. "He's fast, so there was not a doubt in my mind. Once I hit it, I was waving him all the way. I touched first and I was still waving him. It was pretty fun."

Prior to the series, the Brewers had just two road losses before Cincinnati took three of four.

Sam LeCure (1-1), who turned 30 on Sunday, was credited with the win after working around a leadoff double in the top half of the 10th to keep the game tied.

Cincinnati starter Alfredo Simon allowed three runs on five hits and a walk over seven innings of work in the no-decision. Simon, who replaced an injured Mat Latos in the Reds' rotation, has a quality start in each of his six outings.

Frazier finished with two RBI, while Brandon Phillips and Brayan Pena each delivered solo homers in the win.

Khris Davis and Gennett added solo homers for Milwaukee, which saw starter Kyle Lohse hurl 6 1/3 innings, surrendering two runs on eight hits with two strikeouts.

"(Lohse) battled with his command some," said Brewers manager Ron Roenicke. "He keeps us in ball games. He gives us a chance, he comes out with the lead and with our bullpen we feel really good about that. We're been pitching great, we just made a couple mistakes today in the bullpen."

Gennett got the Brewers on the board early in the first with a blast over the right-field wall.

Carlos Gomez doubled with one out in the third and Jonathan Lucroy plated him two batters later with a single to center that gave the Brewers a 2-0 lead.

Pena cut the deficit in half in the home portion of the inning with a moonshot down the right-field line.

Each team plated a run in the fourth, with Davis driving one into the seats and Frazier countering with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning.

Phillips crushed a Brandon Kintzler offering to center that tied the game at 3-3. The homer was Phillips' second of the season and his first since April 5 against the Mets.

Game Notes

Lohse still hasn't lost since April 1 at Atlanta. He has allowed three earned runs or less in all seven of his starts this season ... The Reds were 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position, while Milwaukee was 1-for-5 in such situations.
