Moss, A's down Indians
May 18, 2014 - 5:10 AM Cleveland, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - The A's power surge continued as Brandon Moss' three-run blast helped lead Oakland to a 6-2 win over the Cleveland Indians in the middle test of a three-game set at Progressive Field on Saturday.Oakland has homered in a season-high nine consecutive games. Josh Donaldson finished 3-for-4, driving in three runs and scoring twice for the A's, who have won eight of their last nine games.
Dan Otero (4-0) allowed just four hits over a career-high 3 2/3 innings. He took over for Scott Kazmir in the second after he was ejected for arguing a ball-four call by home plate umpire Jesus Aguilar.
"The bullpen covered the whole game, which was pretty unbelievable," said A's manager Bob Melvin. "[Doing it with] all of them going out there knowing it might be more than what they're used to doing."
Josh Tomlin (2-1) tossed six innings, surrendering three runs on five hits and a walk.
Asdrubal Cabrera recorded the lone RBI for the Indians, who have lost three of their last four contests.
"Otero really did a good job for them," said Indians manager Terry Francona. "They did some good things, but we're at a point where we're an inning into the game and we're in their bullpen."
Cabrera drew a one-out walk in the second and Yan Gomes doubled to right to put runners in scoring position. A wild pitch in the dirt scored Cabrera for the first run of the game.
The A's didn't trail for long. Donaldson ripped a two-out single to center to score Coco Crisp, who reached on a double to tie the game at 1-1 in the third. Moss smashed a sinker into the bleachers in right-center to make it 3-1.
Michael Brantley and Carlos Santana both connected on singles off Fernando Abad to start the sixth. The runners advanced on a groundout and Cabrera made it a one-run game with a sac fly to center.
Donaldson smacked a two-run triple off the yellow line atop the wall in center field in the seventh, which was reviewed and upheld. He didn't have to wait long to cross the plate as Moss lined a double down the left-field line to give the visitors a 6-2 advantage.
