Swisher's slam sends Tribe past Halos in 10

Jun 20, 2014 - 2:02 AM Cleveland, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Nick Swisher's grand slam with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning sent Cleveland to a 5-3 victory over the Angels in Thursday's finale of a shortened three-game series.

Swisher's fourth career walk-off homer came against Ernesto Frieri, who came on after Cam Bedrosian (0-1) loaded the bases on walks to Michael Bourn and Carlos Santana sandwiched around a double from Jason Kipnis.

Frieri has been drilled for six earned runs on eight hits in 1 1/3 innings over his last three appearances.

"I'm really fighting," Frieri said. "I don't know ... It seems like nothing goes my way."

The winning blast barely cleared the wall in right field, and made a winner of Kyle Crockett (1-0), who recorded the final out in the top of the frame.

"One at-bat can turn a whole day around," deadpanned Swisher, who was stuck in traffic on his way to Progressive Field.

Albert Pujols had put the Halos on top by a 3-1 count with a two-run single against Scott Atchison. Los Angeles has dropped five of seven.

Yan Gomes collected two hits and Bourn knocked in the other run for the Indians, winners in four of their last five.

The Angels picked up a run in the second, when Howie Kendrick hit a one-out double, moved up on a Raul Ibanez groundout and scored on Justin Masterson's wild pitch.

The hosts equalized in the third against C.J. Wilson, as Gomes singled, Lonnie Chisenhall walked, Gomes went to third on a fielder's choice grounder and scored on a Bourn groundout.

Swisher fanned looking to end the hosts' sixth with runners on first and third.

Los Angeles stranded runners on the corners in the eighth, then Cleveland left two on in the bottom of the ninth.

Atchison retired the first two batters he faced in the 10th, but Kole Calhoun singled, Mike Trout doubled and Pujols drove both home on a base hit to right which gave the Halos a seemingly iron-clad two-run spread.
