Giants, Rockies set for lengthy meeting

The recent two-time World Series champions can continue a recent surge toward the playoffs on Monday afternoon at Coors Field, where they'll finish a suspended game before beginning a regularly scheduled opener to a three-game series with the Colorado Rockies.

The Giants enter the series having won six in a row and outscoring the Rockies and Milwaukee Brewers, 42-11, to close out a prolonged homestand. They are leading the National League's chase for the top wild card position and trail the Los Angeles Dodgers by just two games in the National League West.

"We've turned it on at the best time of the year," pitcher Madison Bumgarner said. "We're getting hot and everybody's doing their part."

San Francisco hasn't won seven straight games in three years.

The initial game was halted with two outs in the home sixth inning on May 22, with the score tied at 2-2. Both teams have expanded their rosters since that start and will use different pitchers in the resumption.

"That first game is going to get intriguing," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said.

The two runners the Rockies had on base when the game was halted, Michael Cuddyer and Troy Tulowitzki, are both on the disabled list.

The Giants will start veteran Tim Hudson in the regularly scheduled game. He started the suspended game and allowed a run on five hits in three innings before an 82-minute rain delay.

Hudson faced the Rockies again on Wednesday and got a no-decision after allowing four hits in eight innings of a game San Francisco won, 4-2.

The Rockies have lost five of their last six games.

Franklin Morales will start opposite Hudson with a chance to improve a 1-0 mark and a 2.37 ERA against the Giants in 2014.

He opposed Hudson on Wednesday as well and allowed one run with six strikeouts in six innings.

On Sunday in San Francisco, Hunter Pence finished with four hits, three runs scored and two RBI as the Giants completed a three game sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers with a commanding 15-5 victory.

Pablo Sandoval hit a two-run homer among his three hits, drove in three runs and scored three times. Andrew Susac also brought in three runs with three hits for San Francisco, which swept Milwaukee at AT&T Park for the first time since 2007.

Bumgarner (16-9) allowed just one run on five hits with seven strikeouts across six innings for his third straight win.

In Arizona, Aaron Hill went 3-for-4, finishing a homer shy of the cycle, with two RBI and two runs scored as the Diamondbacks defeated the Rockies, 6-2, in the rubber match of a three-game set. Jorge De La Rosa (13-10) took the loss, yielding four runs on seven hits over six-plus innings of work.

Charlie Blackmon hit a solo home run and Charlie Culberson added a sacrifice fly in the ninth to account for Colorado's offense.
