Five home runs power Astros past Angels
Apr 7, 2014 - 1:47 AM Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - The Houston Astros hit five home runs in a 7-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.Jonathan Villar, Alex Presley, Jesus Guzman, Matt Dominguez and Jason Castro all homered for the Astros, who bounced back after dropping the first two games of this four-game series.
Scott Feldman (2-0) delivered with another strong start for Houston, giving up one run on three hits over seven innings. The right-hander got the best of CC Sabathia and the New York Yankees on Tuesday, limiting them to just a pair of hits over 6 2/3 scoreless innings.
"The guys went out and got some early runs for me again. From there, just trying to throw strikes and not walk many guys," Feldman said.
Erick Aybar and Raul Ibanez each knocked in two runs for the Angels, who saw starter Jered Weaver (0-2) allow five runs on five hits over 5 2/3 innings.
"From the get-go he was having problem with commanding counts and repeating pitches, and he got behind," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said of Weaver.
In his return to the lineup, Castro hit the first of five Astros homers in the first inning. Villar was hit by a pitch and stole second before scoring on Castro's blast to left-center field. Castro had missed the previous two games due to a contusion on his right foot.
Dominguez and Guzman hit solo homers in the second and fourth, respectively, to make it a 4-0 contest.
Los Angeles finally got on the board in the fifth. With one out, Howie Kendrick and Hank Conger hit consecutive singles to put men on the corners. Kendrick crossed the plate when Aybar grounded out.
Presley led off the bottom half with a homer to right-center field.
Villar joined the home run party in the seventh. After L.J. Hoes hit a two-out single, Villar cleared the wall in right to make it a 7-1 game.
The Angels scored three runs in the ninth to account for the final margin. Ibanez knocked in two runs with a single and Aybar added an RBI single. Kole Calhoun struck out swinging to give Chad Qualls his first save of the season.
