Gordon, Perez power Royals past Giants

Aug 11, 2014 - 2:33 AM Kansas City, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Alex Gordon and Salvador Perez both hit two-run homers and the Kansas City Royals defeated the San Francisco Giants, 7-4, in the finale of a three-game set on Sunday.

Nori Aoki reached in all four of his at-bats, finishing with two hits, two runs, two walks and three stolen bases for the Royals, who completed their first three-game sweep of the Giants in franchise history.

"My focus is trying to win baseball games both now and tomorrow," said Royals manager Ned Yost. "The only thing that will do you good is to focus on how to win that day."

Danny Duffy (7-10) earned the win after giving up four runs on three hits and three walks with four strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings.

Andrew Susac drove in three runs and supplied two hits with a run scored, while Hunter Pence hit an RBI single for San Francisco, which was swept in an interleague series of three-or-more games for the first time since June 17-19, 2011 at Oakland.

Starter Tim Lincecum (9-8) gave up six runs on seven hits and three walks in 3 1/3 innings for his third straight losing decision. The right-hander is now winless in his last five starts.

"It was an uphill climb with the start that we got off to, but they fought," said Giants manager Bruce Bochy. "They were battling. That's a great sign. That's a tough staff to battle against."

The Royals wasted no time getting on the board. Aoki led off the first with a single and stole second. Perez walked before Billy Butler's liner to the right-field corner landed for an RBI double.

Perez then came home on Lincecum's wild pitch and Gordon followed with a two- run blast to right for a 4-0 lead.

San Francisco got one back in the second. Pablo Sandoval singled, moved to second after Matt Duffy was hit by a pitch, took third on Joe Panik's flyout and scored on Susac's base hit into right.

Aoki ended Lincecum's outing after knocking an RBI single into right with one out in the fourth. Juan Gutierrez took over and got Omar Infante to fly out to center, but Perez stroked a fastball into the left-field seats for a two-run homer and a 7-1 score.

The Giants pushed across three runs in the seventh. Adam Duvall and Panik walked before Susac plated both runners with a one-out double to center. Duffy retired Gregor Blanco for the second out, but was replaced by Jason Frasor.

Pagan welcomed Frasor with a base hit and Susac scored on Pence's line drive to center, making it a 7-4 game.

Greg Holland escaped a bases-loaded jam in the ninth to ensure Kansas City's seventh straight victory with his 34th save of the season.
