Kendrick, Boesch lift Halos past Phils

Aug 14, 2014 - 5:40 AM Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Howie Kendrick and Brennan Boesch both drove in a pair of runs to boost the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim to a 4-3 win over the visiting Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday.

Jered Weaver continued his dominance against the National League, allowing two runs on eight hits to earn the win. Weaver (13-7) improved to 11-1 in his last 12 decisions in interleague play.

"It was a battle. I just tried to limit runs and keep us in it," said Weaver. "Our offense came through and our bullpen shut them down."

The Angels swept this brief two-game set and won for the third time in four games.

Phillies starter A.J. Burnett (6-13) fell to 0-5 over his last six starts after surrendering all four runs in six innings of work. The 37-year-old vet allowed five hits and walked four.

Carlos Ruiz had three hits and Jimmy Rollins finished with two hits and two stolen bases, as Philadelphia fell for the third straight game.

"We outhit them and had some walks in there," said Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg. "We just didn't have the big bat to drive them in."

The Halos have won nine straight games between the two teams.

LA took a 1-0 lead in the second on Boesch's sacrifice fly to center, but Philly got the run back a half inning later when Marlon Byrd plated Rollins with a single to left.

Rollins made it 2-1 in the fourth, driving in Ruiz with a single to right with two outs.

After Mike Trout grounded out to start the home sixth, Albert Pujols doubled, Josh Hamilton was plunked and Erick Aybar drew a walk to load the bases. Kendrick then blooped a two-run single down the right field line to give the Angels the lead. Aybar scored when Boesch grounded into a fielder's choice later in the frame to make it 4-2.

The Phillies got one back in the top of the eighth against Joe Smith. Grady Sizemore tripled with one out and scored on Dominic Brown's groundout.

Huston Street tossed a 1-2-3 ninth to pick up his seventh save since coming over in a trade from San Diego.

Game Notes
