Dodgers blank Phillies behind Kershaw, bullpen

May 24, 2014 - 4:55 AM Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Clayton Kershaw rebounded from a rough outing to combine with four relievers on a three-hitter as the Los Angeles Dodgers blanked the Philadelphia Phillies 2-0 in the opener of a three-game series at Citizens Bank Park on Friday.

Kershaw (3-1) gave up two hits, walked three and struck out nine over six innings. The left-hander was hit hard in Saturday's 18-7 loss at Arizona, surrendering seven runs in 1 2/3 innings.

"It definitely felt good to put some zeroes back up there and remember how to get people out, which is good," Kershaw said.

Yasiel Puig finished 3-for-3 with two walks and an RBI for Los Angeles, which improved to 4-3 on its nine-game road trip.

Roberto Hernandez (2-2) allowed two runs on seven hits and four walks in 6 1/3 innings for the Phillies, who suffered their third straight loss.

"Hernandez did a great job. Two runs against that lineup, kept us in it," said Phillies right fielder Marlon Byrd.

Philadelphia certainly had its chances to score, but was 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.

Kershaw pitched out of two-on, no-out jams in the fourth and sixth innings.

The Phillies also came up empty in a bases-loaded, no-out situation in the seventh.

Brandon League gave up a pinch single to Ben Revere and walked Cesar Hernandez before he made a low throw to first on a sacrifice bunt by pinch- hitter Tony Gwynn, Jr.

J.P. Howell relieved League and preserved the shutout with the help of his defense.

Pinch-hitter Domonic Brown hit a liner to left and Carl Crawford made a sliding catch. Revere had broke for home and was unable to get back to third in time to tag up.

Jimmy Rollins then hit into a fielder's choice, with third baseman Chone Figgins getting the second out at home. Carlos Ruiz flew out to right to end the inning.

Brian Wilson struck out two in a flawless eighth, and Kenley Jansen tossed a 1-2-3 ninth to record his 14th save of the season.

The Dodgers scored a run in each of the first two innings against Roberto Hernandez.

Dee Gordon singled to begin the game, swiped two bases and scored on a Puig one-out single to left.

Crawford led off the second with a homer to right-center field.
