Lucroy, Peralta guide Brewers to series sweep of Dodgers

Aug 17, 2014 - 11:21 PM Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Jonathan Lucroy drove in five runs in the opening two innings and Wily Peralta pitched six scoreless innings as the Milwaukee Brewers picked up a crucial three-game sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers with a 7-2 decision on Sunday.

Peralta (15-7) matched Johnny Cueto and Adam Wainwright for the major league lead in wins with 15 after limiting LA to five hits over six innings of work.

The Brewers entered the series at Dodger Stadium 2 1/2 games behind Los Angeles for the best record in the National League, but now find themselves a half-game up with a little over a month left in the season. Milwaukee took five of six from the Dodgers in August.

Lucroy and Carlos Gomez each went yard in the triumph, with Gomez also drawing a pair of walks and scoring three times. Jean Segura drove in the other Brewers run.

Milwaukee did most of its damage against Dodgers starter Dan Haren (10-10), who was lifted after just three innings. Haren was charged with six runs -- three earned -- on five hits and three walks.

A leadoff walk to Gomez in the top of the first put Haren in an immediate hole, as Lucroy followed with a two-run shot to deep left field. Haren responded to strike out the side, but he failed to carry that momentum into the second inning.

Khris Davis singled to start the second, Segura reached on an error and Gomez drew another walk to load the bases with two outs. Lucroy cleared the bases, lacing a double off the wall in left-center.

Haren gave up two more hits and another run in his final inning, with Segura's sacrifice fly to left plating Scooter Gennett for a 6-0 advantage. Gennett singled and moved into scoring position on Davis' double.

Gomez greeted LA reliever Carlos Frias an inning later by launching his 20th homer of the season down the left field line.

RBI doubles by Scott Van Slyke and Darwin Barney in the bottom of the eighth inning broke up the shutout, but it was too little, too late for the NL West leaders.
