DeGrom pitches Mets past Marlins
Jun 22, 2014 - 12:54 AM Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Jacob deGrom worked seven innings for his first career win and Lucas Duda hit a two-run home run as the New York Mets grabbed a 4-0 victory over the Miami Marlins in the second of a three-game set.DeGrom (1-4) gave up five hits and three walks while striking out seven, and David Wright was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Mets, who have won three of their last four.
"I think the way I was attacking hitters was hurting me," said deGrom. "We talked about it and worked on it and today I was really locating the ball well."
Tom Koehler (5-6) was touched for two runs on four hits with three walks and eight strikeouts over seven innings for the Marlins, who have lost seven of their last 10. Giancarlo Stanton and Ed Lucas each had two hits in the loss.
"It was nice to get through seven and work out of some jams," said Koehler. "But they jumped on the mistakes I made, and I didn't like not being able to put down some bunts when we needed them."
The Mets scored in the fourth inning with a two-out rally. Wright singled to keep the frame alive and Duda walked. Chris Young then punched a single to center to score Wright, but Duda was thrown out at third to end the frame.
Miami got a two-out double from Casey McGehee in the fourth, but Jarrod Saltalamacchia struck out to end the frame, and the team failed to score in the fifth after putting men on first and second with one out.
In the sixth, New York added a run as Eric Young walked, stole second and later came home on a single to right from Wright.
New York made it a 4-0 contest in the ninth as Wright led off with a double and Duda followed with his 10th home run of the season.
The Marlins had men on base in the sixth through ninth innings, but were unable to push any across.
Game Notes
Miami second baseman Rafael Furcal left the game after the third inning with a cramped left hamstring and is listed as day to day ... Miami still leads the season series with New York 5-4.
