Hand pitches Marlins past Giants

Jul 20, 2014 - 11:48 PM Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Brad Hand went seven innings for just the second time in his career, allowing two runs and helping the Miami Marlins salvage the finale of a three-game set with a 3-2 win over the San Francisco Giants.

Hand (1-2) allowed six hits and struck out four to match a career-high in innings pitched. His first career win and only other win as a starter came back on July 7, 2011, against Houston, when he tossed seven two-hit frames in a 5-0 outcome.

"Exactly what we needed," said Marlins manager Mike Redmond. "After the first two days where we struggled for innings, we needed seven and he gave it to us. He looked great."

Casey McGehee went 2-for-4 with a home run for Miami, which halted a six-game losing skid.

Tim Lincecum's (9-6) four-start win streak finally came to an end, as the two- time Cy Young winner was charged with three runs on five hits over seven innings.

Lincecum left an 0-2 breaking ball over the heart of the plate with two outs in the first inning and McGehee took advantage, crushing it over the wall in left for his second home run of the season.

Miami could have padded its lead in the second inning, but two baserunning blunders kept them off the scoreboard. Marcell Ozuna was caught in a rundown in between second and third with no outs, and Adeiny Hechavarria was tagged out at third trying to advance on Jeff Mathis' grounder.

Buster Posey tied things up at 2-2 with one swing of the bat in the visiting third, slapping one down the left field line for a two-run double. Hunter Pence and Marco Scutaro both scored without a throw.

Neither team scored again until the seventh inning, when Hechavarria's double led to the eventual game-winning run. Mathis advanced Hechavarria to third with a sacrifice bunt and he scored easily when a heavy breaking ball in the dirt got away from catcher Hector Sanchez for a wild pitch.

"It was supposed to be on the plate and down," Lincecum said of his wild pitch. "I was trying to get him to chase."

Bryan Morris and Steve Cishek pitched perfect innings in relief of Hand, with Cishek earning his 21st save of the year.

Hand improved to 2-9 lifetime as a starting pitcher ... Prior to the game, the Marlins recalled pitcher Anthony DeSclafani from Triple-A New Orleans and optioned infielder Ed Lucas to New Orleans ... Marlins outfielder Christian Yelich went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts, as his 12-game hit streak ended ... Giants first baseman Brandon Belt left Saturday's game with dizziness and was not in Sunday's lineup.
