Braun, Brewers complete sweep of Phillies

Apr 11, 2014 - 5:09 AM Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Ryan Braun embraced the boos from the Philadelphia fans, going 6-for-12 with three homers, 10 RBI and five runs scored during the Milwaukee Brewers' three-game sweep of the Phillies.

Braun went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in the Brewers' 6-2 victory over the Phillies on Thursday.

The 30-year-old Braun was booed heavily in each of his at-bats throughout the series. He used that as motivation to continue his strong play at Citizens Bank Park, where he has 10 homers and 24 RBI in 22 career games.

Khris Davis went 2-for-4 with two RBI for Milwaukee, which went a perfect 6-0 during its road trip. Carlos Gomez, Aramis Ramirez and Jean Segura each knocked in a run.

Milwaukee starter Marco Estrada (1-0) allowed two runs on five hits while striking out six over six innings.

Marlon Byrd hit a solo homer and knocked in two runs for the Phillies, who have lost four in a row. Cliff Lee (2-1) got the start and gave up three runs on eight hits while striking out eight over six full frames.

"We got beat. I mean they beat us all three games, there's no way around it," Lee said, "but we got to put it behind us, move on and come in here tomorrow and try to head in the right direction."

The Phillies took a 1-0 lead on Byrd's homer to left in the second inning.

Milwaukee scored two runs in the fourth to take the lead for good. Braun singled to left and raced home on Ramirez's double to left-center field. Two batters later, Davis hit an RBI single to left.

The Brewers tacked on another run in the sixth when Jonathan Lucroy scored on Davis' double to right-center field. Lucroy reached base with a two-out double.

Philadelphia got one run back in the bottom half of the frame. With two outs, Jimmy Rollins walked, Chase Utley singled and Ryan Howard walked to load the bases. Byrd's infield single to third plated a run. Domonic Brown flied out to keep it a 3-2 game.

Milwaukee put the game away with a three-run seventh. Jeff Manship put runners on first and second with no outs. Gomez hit an RBI single to left. Jake Diekman took over on the mound and was greeted by Segura's run-scoring single to center. Braun's sacrifice fly made it a 6-2 game.

"It's always important to add on," said Brewers manager Ron Roenicke. "If you score early and you never do anything, it always gets scary at the end."

Tyler Thornburg, Will Smith and Francisco Rodriguez each tossed a scoreless inning of relief to close out the victory.
