Brewers rally past Mets
Jul 27, 2014 - 4:57 AM Milwaukee, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - Mark Reynolds hit a solo home run and the Milwaukee Brewers took down the New York Mets on Saturday, 5-2, in the third installment of a four-game series.Reynolds and Ryan Braun each had a pair of hits for the surging Brewers, who have won five of six. Braun, Jonathan Lucroy and Khris Davis drove in a run apiece.
Wily Peralta (12-6) won his third straight start after yielding a pair of runs on six hits over 5 2/3 innings of work.
"He wasn't on his game," said Brewers manager Ron Roenicke. "His fastball command was up in the zone a lot. The slider he just couldn't get a feel for. ... The great thing is he got through the game and kept the run total down."
Francisco Rodriguez made amends for serving up Lucas Duda's go-ahead home run in the ninth inning of Friday's loss, retiring the side in the ninth to pick up his 30th save.
Duda stayed hot for the Mets, picking up an RBI in the setback, while Chris Young doubled twice and Curtis Granderson homered and scored both New York runs.
Duda has five RBI in his last five games.
Jonathon Niese (5-6) was charged with three runs on five hits in five innings to absorb the loss.
Granderson led off the visiting third with a double to center and moved to third when Daniel Murphy grounded out. Two batters later, Duda cracked an RBI single just in front of a charging Carlos Gomez in center to give the Mets an early 1-0 lead.
Granderson doubled the spread when he led off the fifth with a solo homer that just snuck over the wall in right field.
The Brewers put up a three-spot in the bottom of the fifth, however, to claim the lead. Jean Segura sprinted home on Niese's wild pitch for the first run. With two outs and the bases empty, Gomez singled to right and Lucroy cranked an RBI double off the wall in center to tie it. Braun followed with a line drive to right, scoring Lucroy.
"I don't know if his concentration got broke and the ball got by the catcher as that run scored, but after that all of a sudden balls started to come up in the zone," Mets manager Terry Collins said.
Reynolds' sixth-inning blast to center made it 4-2, and Milwaukee added an insurance run in the eighth. Rickie Weeks singled with two outs off Carlos Torres to extend the inning and Davis drove him in with a double to deep right-center.
Young doubled down the right field line with one out in the ninth off Rodriguez, but Granderson struck out looking and Braun made a sliding catch to rob Murphy of a hit and end the game.
Game Notes
David Wright fell to 0-for-8 lifetime against Peralta ... Braun has now hit safely in 16 of his last 17 games at home ... New York finished 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position.
