Giants finish off sweep of fading Mets
Jun 9, 2014 - 4:51 AM San Francisco, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Gregor Blanco went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs to help the San Francisco Giants to a sweep of the New York Mets with a 6-4 decision on Sunday.Tim Lincecum (5-4) earned the win after going six innings and giving up three runs on six hits with six strikeouts.
Brandon Crawford and Brandon Hicks each drove in a run for the Giants, who have won five straight.
"We're doing a great job of coming out every day ready to go," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said of his club. "They're playing the game the way it should be."
Zack Wheeler (2-6) picked up the loss, surrendering four runs on six hits over 3 2/3 innings.
"I needed to go deep into the game," Wheeler said. "I didn't pitch well."
Curtis Granderson was the lone bright spot for New York, which dropped the final six games of its 11-game road trip, going 3-for-4 with two homers and three RBI.
Matt den Dekker walked to begin the game, stole second, then was caught stealing third with one out during Daniel Murphy's at-bat. Murphy, who also went 3-for-4, singled and Granderson followed with a two-run shot to center to give the Mets and early cushion.
Hector Sanchez, Tyler Colvin and Crawford all singled to open up the second, with Crawford's knock plating Sanchez. Hicks and Lincecum each struck out before Blanco laced a double into right that gave the Giants a 3-2 lead.
Hunter Pence was plunked to lead off the third, moved over to third on a single from Pablo Sandoval and scored when Michael Morse grounded into a double play.
Granderson smacked his second homer of the game and eighth of the season to cut the Mets' deficit to 4-3 in the sixth.
The Giants added a run in the seventh when Blanco brought Ehire Adrianza home with a single to center.
New York got the run back in the eighth. After a single by Murphy and a double by Granderson, Jean Machi uncorked a wild pitch that allowed Murphy to race home to help the Mets again cut the deficit to one. Chris Young flied out to left to end the inning.
The back-and-forth affair continued in the home half of the eighth, with Hicks driving Crawford home with a single to account for the final margin.
Sergio Romo came on in the ninth and struck two to pick up his 20th save of the season.
