Cashner, Padres blank Phillies

"Right from the start you could tell that (Williams) was on, you could tell that (Cashner) was on," Padres manager Bud Black said. "You knew that this was going to be a low scoring game."
Phillies starter Jerome Williams (3-2) was up to the task in opposing Cashner, going 7 2/3 innings and yielding an unearned run on three hits and two walks with six strikeouts.
"It's tough," said Williams. "I just wanted to throw up zeros."
The Padres snapped a five-game losing streak against the Phillies with the win.
Rene Rivera doubled to left to begin the second and moved over to third on a groundout. Will Venable walked two batters later before Cashner reached on a fielding error by third baseman Cody Asche, which allowed Rivera to cross home for the game's only run.
Cashner did not allow a hit until the fifth, when Domonic Brown laid a bunt down the third-base line to reach base.
Williams hadn't allowed a baserunner from the second inning to the eighth, when he was eventually knocked out of the game with two outs.
San Diego loaded the bases later in the inning, but Luis Garcia got Yasmani Grandal to ground out to first to end the inning.
Cashner struck out Freddy Galvis to begin the ninth, then Grady Sizemore grounded out before Ben Revere flied out to left to end the game.
