Pence, Lincecum lead Giants past Padres
Jul 7, 2014 - 2:58 AM San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Hunter Pence scored three times and Tim Lincecum tossed 6 1/3 solid innings to lead the San Francisco Giants to a 5-3 victory over the San Diego Padres in the rubber match of a three-game set.Pence finished 3-for-4 with a double and Joe Panik had an RBI double among his two hits and scored twice for the Giants, who won the final two games of the series.
Lincecum (8-5), who tossed a no-hitter against San Diego less than two weeks ago, limited the Padres to just one run on three hits with four walks and six strikeouts to collect his third straight win.
"I just feel like I have the confidence to go to any of my pitches right now," Lincecum said. "I'm not going to overpower teams with my stuff, just have to mix my pitches and location."
Brooks Conrad and Yasmani Grandal both homered for San Diego, while starter Jesse Hahn (4-2), who won his four previous starts, was tagged with the loss after giving up three runs on five hits and two walks in seven frames.
Pence led off the game with a double to left and moved to third on a passed ball. Brandon Belt brought him home with a line-drive single to right, giving the Giants an early lead.
San Francisco added two more runs in the third. Panik's one-out double down the left-field line scored Pence from first and two batters later, Michael Morse plated Panik with a sharp liner to left.
Conrad got the Padres on the board in the seventh with a shot over the right- field wall to chase Lincecum and make it a 3-1 game.
Pence singled off Alex Torres to start the eighth, moved over to third on Panik's base hit to right and scored on Belt's sacrifice fly to deep right. Two batters later, Hector Sanchez's liner off Blaine Boyer dropped into center for an RBI double.
In the eighth, Grandal got the Padres back within two after smacking a two-run blast to right with two outs.
"That ball was crushed. It was one of the longest balls I've seen. He crushed that pitch," said Padres manager Bud Black.
Santiago Casilla tossed a 1-2-3 ninth inning to earn his third save of the season.
