Moreland's homer lifts Rangers past Blue Jays

May 19, 2014 - 4:10 AM Arlington, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Mitch Moreland's two-run home run helped the Texas Rangers to a 6-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays in the finale of a three-game set.

Alex Rios drove in a pair of runs, while Shin-Soo Choo went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Rangers, who snapped a four-game slide.

"We just wanted to go out and get back to playing Texas Rangers baseball and trust each other as a teammate," Moreland said. "We know we're capable of doing special things as a team and this was a good first step."

Nick Martinez pitched five innings in the start for Texas and allowed a run on four hits, while Aaron Poreda (2-0) got the win for tossing two innings in relief.

Edwin Encarnacion and Juan Francisco hit solo homers for the Blue Jays, who had a three-game winning streak stopped. R.A. Dickey (4-4) lost for the first time in six starts as he was touched for four runs on three hits with three walks in 6 1/3 innings.

"We're definitely going in the right direction but there's more there," Dickey said. "I think we all know it. Today's a game we probably should have won."

This game stayed scoreless until the fourth when Francisco hit a one-out solo home run, his eighth of the season, to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead.

Texas, though, answered in the home half to take the lead. With one out, Choo singled and Adrian Beltre walked. Rios then tripled to right for a 2-1 lead.

Toronto tied the game in the sixth on Encarnacion's one-out solo homer, a shot over the left-center wall for his ninth of the season.

The Rangers grabbed the lead back in the seventh as Moreland blasted a pitch over the right field wall for a 4-2 lead. Rios reached base prior to Moreland's at-bat when Francisco misplayed a grounder to third.

Texas padded its lead in the eighth on an RBI double from Choo, followed by a run-scoring single from Beltre for a 6-2 lead.

Joakim Soria, who turned 30 on Sunday, tossed a scoreless ninth to complete the victory.
