Dickerson, Rockies drop Giants
Apr 15, 2015 - 6:31 AM San Francisco, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Corey Dickerson finished with three hits, three runs scored and an RBI as the Colorado Rockies defeated the San Francisco Giants by a 4-1 score in the second of a three-game set on Tuesday.DJ LeMahieu and Wilin Rosario each drove in a run for the Rockies, who started the season 5-0 on the road for the first time in franchise history.
Colorado starter Christian Bergman struck out four over four scoreless innings and Scott Oberg (1-0) tossed a scoreless fifth inning to earn the win in his major league debut.
Angel Pagan supplied three hits and a run, while Matt Duffy drove in the Giants' lone run in the team's fifth straight loss. Tim Hudson (0-1) received no help from his offense after giving up three runs on eight hits with four strikeouts over seven innings.
"We have to find a way to get these guys to relax," San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy said. "It's frustrating because we are getting some good pitching."
Nolan Arenado kicked off the second inning with a double and hustled home on Dickerson's single to center. Dickerson moved to third on Nick Hundley's groundout and scored on a wild pitch to give the Rockies an early 2-0 lead.
The Rockies added another run in the third. Dickerson and Hundley each singled to place runners on the corners with no outs and DJ LeMahieu's sacrifice bunt scored Dickerson.
San Francisco, which finished 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position, got its leadoff hitter aboard in the fourth and fifth innings, but he was left stranded each time.
In the eighth, Pagan greeted Rafael Betancourt with a leadoff single and Brandon Belt worked a walk. Arenado made a spectacular play in foul territory, catching Gregor Blanco's pop fly in foul territory while falling into the first row of the crowd.
"I'm just so thankful I didn't get hurt," Arenado said.
Belt moved to third on the play and came home on Duffy's sacrifice fly to right field, making it a 3-1 game.
Dickerson stroked a liner to right and raced to third for a triple and later came home on Rosario's groundout to account for the final score.
Adam Ottavino struck out the side in the ninth to nail down his first save of the season.
