Harang shines as Phillies beat Braves

Apr 25, 2015 - 4:30 AM Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Ben Revere's dribbler to first base produced the game's lone run in the bottom of the ninth inning, as the Philadelphia Phillies pulled out a 1-0 win over the Atlanta Braves in the opener of a three-game series.

Freddy Galvis opened the decisive frame with a single to center and advanced to second on a Cesar Hernandez sacrifice bunt.

Galvis busted it to third on Jim Johnson's (1-2) wild pitch, narrowly beating A.J. Pierzynski's frantic throw to the base. He scored without a throw when Freddie Freeman bobbled Revere's bouncer.

Despite the no-decision, Aaron Harang was the hero for the Phillies. The 36- year-old continued his torrid start to the season, tossing eight scoreless innings against his former club. Harang yielded just two hits and a walk while striking out six.

"I was really on," said Harang. "Once I was able to establish the strike zone, I was good to go, and everything just fell into place."

Ken Giles (1-0) picked up the win after tossing a scoreless top of the ninth.

Harang was perfect through three innings and took a no-hitter into the fifth before Pierzynski's one-out double to right. Chris Johnson followed with a single, but Harang avoided damage by inducing an Andrelton Simmons double-play grounder.

"We didn't do anything against Harang," said Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez. "He did a good job keeping us off balance."

Philadelphia's best chance before the ninth came an inning later. Wood walked Chase Utley before singles from Jeff Francoeur and Cody Asche loaded the bases. Cody Martin relieved Wood and got Carlos Ruiz to fly out to right to end the threat.

Alex Wood started for the Braves and gave up five hits with two talks over 5 2/3 innings.

Atlanta has lost four straight games.

Harang pitched last season with the Braves ... The Phillies had lost nine of their last 11 games ... Philadelphia outhit Atlanta, 8-2, but went 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position and left 11 on base... The Braves committed four errors.
