Morrison's HR in 11th lifts Mariners over A's
May 9, 2015 - 6:23 AM Seattle, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - Logan Morrison homered leading off the bottom of the 11th inning, and the Seattle Mariners kicked off a nine-game homestand with a 4-3 win over the Oakland Athletics on Friday night.Morrison jumped all over the only pitch thrown by Oakland reliever Dan Otero (2-2), crushing it over the center-field wall.
Seattle had suffered back-to-back walk-off defeats to the Angels to conclude a road trip during which it went 4-6.
The Mariners erased a 3-1 deficit in the seventh on consecutive two-out RBI doubles by Brad Miller and Robinson Cano.
"Miller had a big at-bat, hit a breaking ball, and (Cano) really battled," Seattle manager Lloyd McClendon said.
Oakland had runners on the corners in the eighth, but Mark Lowe got pinch- hitter Mark Canha to ground into a fielder's choice to end the threat.
Carson Smith (1-2) struck out three over two scoreless innings to pick up the win.
Josh Reddick hit a two-run homer for the Athletics, losers of three straight. At 12-19, Oakland has its worst record through 31 games since 2001 (11-20).
Kyle Seager led off the second with a double and scored on Morrison's single as the Mariners grabbed a 1-0 lead.
Oakland tied it in the third on Billy Butler's two-out RBI single, then went up 3-1 on Reddick's fifth home run of the season, a liner over the center- field wall. The blast followed a two-out single by Sam Fuld.
Sonny Gray started for the A's and held the Mariners to a run on six hits and struck out nine in six innings.
Seattle starter Taijuan Walker allowed three runs on five hits, walked two and struck out six over five innings.
Game Notes
