Orioles beat Blue Jays in return to Baltimore

May 12, 2015 - 6:45 AM Baltimore, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - The Orioles beat the Blue Jays in front of 20,468 fans at Camden Yards.

It was a much different scene than their last game in Baltimore.

Adam Jones, Chris Davis and Manny Machado each homered and Ubaldo Jimenez had a season-high nine strikeouts to lead Baltimore to a 5-2 win over Toronto in the opener of a three-game series Monday night.

It was the first game played at Camden Yards since an Orioles homestand was impacted by the rioting in Baltimore last month.

Jimenez (3-2) went seven innings and gave up six hits, including two RBI doubles to Ezequiel Carrera.

"He was really good," said Orioles manager Buck Showalter. "He had a lot of counts in his favor, a lot of strike ones. ... If he's doing that, he's got a chance to have a pretty good outing."

Davis hit a two-run homer and Jones and Machado added solo blasts as the Orioles got just their second win in the last seven games.

Toronto starter Marco Estrada (1-2) allowed three runs, five hits and two walks in five innings to take the loss.

It was the first time fans could watch the Orioles in person since April 26 -- an 18-7 win over Boston that came before two games were postponed in the midst of citywide unrest over the death of Freddie Gray.

The Orioles beat the White Sox three days later, but fans weren't allowed in the stadium because of safety concerns.

They went on the road after that, winning two of three against Tampa Bay as the designated home team, then going 1-5 against the Mets and Yankees in an official road trip in New York.

They wore "Baltimore" across the front of their white jerseys on Monday night instead of the traditional "Orioles" for home games.

Jimenez greeted the fans by striking out the side in the top of the first, and the Orioles homered twice in the bottom of the inning for a 3-0 lead.

"That's his third start against us," Toronto manager John Gibbons said. "He's living on the corners with a lot of movement and just pounding strikes. He was great, he was great again tonight."

Machado drove a fastball over the right-field wall for his sixth homer of the season and Davis hit his eighth, also to right, on a first-pitch fastball with two outs.

Jimenez struck out the side again in the fourth inning and had faced just one batter over the minimum before Kevin Pillar and Carrera hit consecutive doubles with two outs in the fifth to score a run.

Toronto reliever Jeff Francis gave up two singles in the sixth inning and hit a batter and Steve Delabar gave up a sacrifice fly to Caleb Joseph that made it 4-1.

The Blue Jays trimmed it to 4-2 on Carrera's second RBI double in the seventh, but Jones' first homer since April 19 restored Baltimore's three-run advantage in the bottom of the inning.

Darren O'Day pitched a perfect eighth inning for Baltimore and Zach Britton stranded runners on first and third base in the ninth inning after giving up two-out singles, earning his seventh save of the season.

Game Notes

Baltimore snapped a four-game losing streak to the Blue Jays this season, improving to 2-5 against them ... Orioles second baseman Ryan Flaherty left the game in the third inning with an apparent groin injury. Steve Pearce moved from left field to second base and David Lough entered the game to play left. Flaherty was activated from the 15-day disabled list on Friday after recovering from a right groin strain.
