Royals take out Rangers to earn split

May 15, 2015 - 2:47 AM Arlington, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Alcides Escobar finished with three hits and drove in three runs as Kansas City downed Texas by a 6-3 count in the finale of a four-game series.

Eric Hosmer added a two-run homer among his three hits for the Royals, who received two hits each from Kendrys Morales, Omar Infante and Drew Butera while Alex Gordon drove in the other run.

"We're in a good place. I think offensively, we're swinging the bats well," Hosmer said.

Jeremy Guthrie (3-2) allowed two runs on six hits over five innings. Greg Holland left two on in the ninth to capture his seventh save.

Elvis Andrus, Prince Fielder and Delino DeShields each knocked in a run for the Rangers, who failed to clinch the set.

Ross Detwiler (0-5) was tagged in defeat for three runs on nine hits over his five-frame outing.

"You just gotta focus on keeping the ball down. Everything has been up for most of the year, you gotta make better pitches," Detwiler said.

Down 3-0 after four innings, Texas climbed back into the contest with two in the home fifth on RBI singles from DeShields and Fielder. However, Kansas City countered with three runs in the following frame to extend their lead to 6-2.

Butera greeted Anthony Bass with a double and moved up on a sacrifice bunt from Jarrod Dyson before scoring on an Escobar base hit. Sam Freeman then entered for Texas, but Escobar advanced on a passed ball and came home two batters later on Hosmer's shot to center.

DeShields walked in the bottom of the seventh and eventually came in on an Andrus sac fly off Kelvin Herrera. The Rangers went meekly in the eighth, then folded up in the ninth as after Holland walked DeShields and Shin-Soo Choo, Andrus grounded back to the mound.

Gordon's fielder's choice grounder plated Escobar to put the Royals on the board in the first.

Kansas City loaded the bases in the fourth on a single by Infante, a bunt base hit by Paulo Orlando and a Dyson plunking ahead of a two-run single from Escobar.
