Machado, Joseph power Orioles past Marlins

May 23, 2015 - 2:59 AM Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Manny Machado drove in three runs to help power the Baltimore Orioles to a rare 8-5 victory over the Miami Marlins in the opener of a three-game set on Friday.

Caleb Joseph went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI, while Jimmy Paredes also recorded three hits with an RBI for the Orioles, who entered the game 1-11 all-time on the road against the Marlins. Their only other win came nearly 16 years ago on June 9, 1999.

Tyler Wilson (1-0) earned his first career win despite giving up a run and three hits during the fifth inning. Starter Ubaldo Jimenez allowed three runs on seven hits over four frames.

Adeiny Hechavarria had three hits and two runs scored, Justin Bour homered and Dee Gordon stole four bases for Miami, which is mired in an eight-game slump.

Starter Henderson Alvarez (0-4) was tagged with the loss after giving up six runs -- four earned -- on six hits and four walks over five-plus innings.

Baltimore went ahead in the sixth. Alvarez issued walks to Chris Davis and Travis Snider to start the inning. Davis came home when Alvarez sailed a throw to left field following J.J. Hardy's bunt.

Steve Cishek took over for Alvarez, but fared no better as Joseph hit a grounder up the middle for a two-run single. Paredes followed with an RBI single off Cishek's glove to make it a 6-3 game

"It's frustrating the way it's been going," Cishek said. "We just need to win a ball game and tell ourselves we can do it."

Michael Morse's pinch-hit double to right in the bottom half scored Hechavarria, who got aboard with a leadoff single. Gordon singled and stole second, but Tommy Hunter retired the next two batters to keep the Orioles in front.

Machado cracked a two-run doubled down the left-field line to increase Baltimore's lead to 8-4 in the eighth.

Bour stroked a solo shot off Brad Brach in the ninth to account for the final score and Zach Britton recorded the final out of the ninth for his 10th save of the season.

Gordon led off the home first with a base hit to center, stole both second and third base and hustled home on a Giancarlo Stanton single for an early Marlins lead.

Alvarez helped his own cause with an RBI single in the second and Hechavarria beat Paredes' throw home after Marcell Ozuna hit into a fielder's choice for a 3-0 game.

The Orioles left the bases loaded in the fourth, but cut the deficit to a run an inning later after Young hit an RBI double off the base of the center-field wall and Joseph scored on a Machado groundout.
