Dozier's 2 homers help Twins rout White Sox

May 24, 2015 - 10:25 PM Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Brian Dozier hit two home runs, and Kyle Gibson tossed eight strong innings in the Minnesota Twins' 8-1 win over the Chicago White Sox.

Gibson (4-3) allowed just one run on four hits with no walks and eight strikeouts, which tied a career high. Dozier drove in four runs, and Eddie Rosario plated two in his two-hit game to help the Twins win the rubber game of this three-game set.

"Gibson was locked in," said Twins manager Paul Molitor. "We just rode him out as long as we could. He pitched well for us."

Jose Quintana (2-5) was hammered for seven runs -- six earned -- on seven hits in six-plus innings. Chicago's only run came on Jose Abreu's home run in the fourth.

"We just didn't play well, and they outplayed us," said White Sox manager Robin Ventura. "That much was pretty evident."

Dozier set the tone for the rest of the game by hitting Quintana's second pitch of the game into the seats, and Gibson shut down the White Sox early despite allowing a couple of hits in the second inning.

In the fourth, Minnesota opened up a bigger lead. Shane Robinson led off with a double, and when Adam Eaton could not handle Joe Mauer's liner to center, Robinson scored and Mauer moved up to second base. Trevor Plouffe's single put runners on the corners with no outs, and Torii Hunter's infield single scored Mauer. Quintana got the first out of the inning, but after Chris Herrmann walked to load the bases, Rosario's single scored two to give the Twins a 5-0 lead.

Gibson made his lone mistake in the bottom of the fourth when Abreu hammered a hanging pitch to the opposite field for his seventh home run of the season.

Quintana settled in for a couple innings before back-to-back singles to open the seventh knocked him out of the game. Dozier then greeted Scott Carroll out of the bullpen with his second home run of the game to extend Minnesota's lead to seven runs.

Gibson retired the last five batters he faced, and Brian Duensing pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to wrap up the game.
