Giants use big inning to top Brewers
May 26, 2015 - 1:06 AM Milwaukee, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - The San Francisco Giants scored seven runs in the sixth inning to erase a three-run deficit and top the Milwaukee Brewers by an 8-4 score on Monday.Nori Aoki led the Giants against his former club with four hits, two runs scored, two runs driven in and a steal, and Hunter Pence added three hits and two RBI.
"He really had a great game today," San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy said of Aoki. "He came out ready to go."
Despite allowing four runs in five innings on three home runs, Tim Lincecum (5-2) picked up a win, and Jeremy Affeldt and Hunter Strickland combined to hold Milwaukee scoreless over the final four innings.
Khris Davis hit a pair of homers for the Brewers, and Ryan Braun added a two- run shot to account for all of their runs. Kyle Lohse (3-5) was charged with five runs on six hits and three walks in 5 1/3 innings, and Jeremy Jeffress was tagged for three runs without recording an out.
Lohse held a three-run lead entering the sixth and got the inning off to a nice start by striking out Angel Pagan, but the game quickly turned south. With the bases loaded, Matt Duffy hit an RBI single to center. On the play, Carlos Gomez's fielding error scored Brandon Belt.
Jeffress did not fare any better. Andrew Susac greeted him with a single to tie the game at four, and pinch-hitter Gregor Blanco drove in Duffy with a single. Aoki followed with a run-scoring hit, and after Pagan struck out for the second time in the inning, Pence doubled home two runs to give the Giants an 8-4 lead.
"It feels like we've had too many of those innings lately," said Brewers manager Craig Counsell. "You're not going to win games giving up fix, six or seven runs in an inning."
After San Francisco's big inning, Milwaukee's bats disappeared. Affeldt tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings without allowing a hit, and Strickland struck out three over 2 1/3 perfect innings to wrap up the game.
Lincecum, who only allowed one home run in 47 2/3 innings entering Monday's game, had trouble with the longball in the early innings. It appeared that Davis' first solo homer of the game in the first would not count when the umpires ruled he did not touch home plate, but the Brewers successfully challenged to overturn the call.
San Francisco tied the game in the third when Aoki, who spent his first two big league seasons with Milwaukee hit his second home run. In the home half of the third, Davis hit his second home run. The Brewers went up 4-1 on Braun's home run in the fifth.
Game Notes
This was the fourth game in his career Lincecum has allowed three home runs ... Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford extended his hitting streak to 10 games ... Davis had three of Milwaukee's five hits and also walked ... The Giants are 8-2 since Pence came off the disabled list.
