Diamondbacks slip past Braves

Jun 3, 2015 - 6:38 AM Phoenix, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - A.J. Pollock's two-run home run lifted the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 7-6 win over the Atlanta Braves in the middle contest of a three-game set.

Pollock finished the game with three RBI while Ender Inciarte scored twice and drove in two for the Diamondbacks, who had lost five of seven coming in.

"Tried putting it in the gap ... fortunately it went over the fence," Pollock said.

Josh Collmenter allowed three runs on six hits with three strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings in the start. Andrew Chafin (3-0) pitched 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

A.J. Pierzynski and Todd Cunningham each drove in a pair of runs for the Braves, who had a three-game winning streak broken.

Shelby Miller had his worst start of the season as he gave up a season-high four runs on six hits along with six walks in just a season-low 4 1/3 innings. Brandon Cunniff (2-1) allowed Pollock's homer to take the loss.

"Didn't really get in the groove," Miller said. "Our offense did a heck of a job coming back and scoring runs."

Freddie Freeman singled with two outs in the first and stole second before crossing the plate on a Nick Markakis double to give the Braves a 1-0 lead.

Arizona went on top in the third as Inciarte singled in two runs and Paul Goldschmidt worked a bases-loaded walk for a 3-1 lead.

The Diamondbacks tacked on another run in the fourth when Pollock grounded out to plate a run, but the Braves went on top in the sixth.

With the bases loaded and two outs, Pierzynski singled in two runs and Jonny Gomes followed with an RBI double. Cunningham then scored two more with a double for a 6-4 lead.

Arizona got one back in the sixth on Yasmany Tomas' RBI single, and Pollock gave his team a 7-6 advantage with a two-run home run, his sixth of the season.

Daniel Hudson pitched a 1-2-3 eighth for Arizona, and Brad Ziegler tossed a scoreless ninth for his fourth save of the season.

Arizona hit just 3-for-14 with runners in scoring position and stranded 12 ... Mike Foltynewicz tosses the rubber match for Atlanta on Wednesday, while Rubby De La Rosa takes the mound for Arizona.
