Mayberry, Mets top D-backs

Jun 5, 2015 - 5:38 AM Phoenix, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - John Mayberry Jr. went 4-for-5 with a two- run homer in the New York Mets' 6-2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday.

Kevin Plawecki hit a two-run double during a three-run sixth for the Mets, who snapped a two-game skid. Ruben Tejada and Curtis Granderson had one RBI apiece.

New York starter Matt Harvey (6-3) allowed two runs on six hits with nine strikeouts and one walk over seven innings. The right-hander won for the first time since May 1 against the Nationals.

Paul Goldschmidt and Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit solo homers for the Diamondbacks, who went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position and stranded seven.

Robbie Ray made his second start of the season and gave up six hits over five scoreless innings. Newly acquired reliever Dominic Leone (0-1) allowed three runs on four hits in the sixth.

Jeremy Hellickson was originally scheduled to take the ball Thursday, but was pushed back to Friday to start in place of Archie Bradley, who went on the disabled list because of right shoulder tendinitis.

The Mets failed to score after putting their first two men on in the first. Tejada singled and Daniel Murphy doubled to put men on second and third. The runners were left stranded as Michael Cuddyer struck out looking, Lucas Duda struck out swinging and Wilmer Flores grounded out.

Saltalamacchia hit his first homer as a member of the Diamondbacks in the second.

New York scored three runs off Leone in the sixth. Flores and Mayberry started things with back-to-back singles. Juan Lagares followed with a grounder to short and Arizona was unable to turn a double play, leaving men on the corners. Plawecki hit a two-run double off the wall in center. Plawecki advanced to third on Harvey's single and crossed the plate on Tejada's sacrifice fly.

Goldschmidt's solo homer in the sixth made it 3-2.

The Mets plated a run off Addison Reed in the eighth. Mayberry led off with a double and raced home on Granderson's one-out single to left.

Arizona left men on the corners in the home half when David Peralta grounded out.

Mayberry hit a two-run homer off Daniel Hudson in the ninth.

Leone was acquired by Arizona on Wednesday with catcher Welington Castillo in a six-player swap that sent outfielder Mark Trumbo to the Seattle Mariners ... The Mets went 5-for-17 with RISP and stranded 10 ... Murphy left in the bottom of the third with a tight left quadriceps.
